“It’s a Waxprint thing you wouldn’t understand”
about us
Have you ever had an endorphin rush when you see new waxprint fabrics?
Now imagine getting that feeling monthly, or every two months, with a box sent to you full or print fabrics, headwraps, sewing projects and more! That feeling is why I decided to curate an African print subscription box and select only the best prints for you!
Hi, I am Jacqueline.
I am a self professed serial-entrepreneur. I started different businesses as I struggled to gain jobs and promotions in my fashion career as an industry designer who has worked for international brands and retailers for nearly 20 years.
During the 2020 pandemic I decided to launch a product based business to add on to a few service based businesses I already run introducing creatives to Africa's fashion and textile industry. WHY? Because I love African fashion, have worked with Africa for 10 years AND want to have some serious fun whilst adding joy to another creative person's life on a monthly basis. If you are down to come on this journey with me do subscribe to Wax+Wraps boxes!
You see our boxes offer more than JUST waxprint or ankara BUT also introduce new prints and fabrics coming from Africa, made by artisans, to you letterbox monthly.
SO whether you will be selecting the sewists box full of prints and sewing kits or the stylist box filled with headwraps, headbands or night bonnets - you will receive an array of fabrics from different African countries.
Wax+Wraps introduces you to the countries and to the textiles with our country introduction cards. Switch it over to see the fabric swatch cards for the more specialist textiles such as Dan Fani cloths or Mudcloths, You get you a sample card with information for you to view, touch get acquainted, and if you want to order more you can let me know and we can make arrangements.
BUT WHY you ask?
On creating this logo above I knew it was more then the WW sign that was key. It was more than the W symbols looking like two women’s heads ... can you see it? And that it was more than using a name that literally says what was in the box (pun intended).
For me this business is an opportunity for me to:
1) share the love for Africa I’ve built up over ten years where I’ve been working with companies and manufacturers and
2) to share with many creatives out there the AMAZING crafts and talents Africa has to offer and
3) to bring trade to Africa - this is the gamechanger!
By bringing business to these fabric makers I am working with can keep someone in work. This will enable them to continue supporting their families. This is why I’m pushing #forthecraftfortheculture. And may I add too... for the PEOPLE.
This is not charity, but simply using the empowering opportunities of trade and business to create change. With my main business Africa Fashion Guide my mantra says
"to see change in Africa, you must trade with Africa."
that
"trade is the tool, and fashion is the vehicle, to bring change to Africa"
If this resonates with you as you’re reading, do be a part of this by subscribing for the upcoming months' box subscriptions, knowing that you will be investing in not only a black, female owned business BUT most importantly for me.. you will be investing in artisans, makers and manufacturers in African countries.
And whilst we together are investing in African crafts, textiles, manufacturing and skills you are also getting a beautiful piece of fun to add to our lives month after month.
From my friends in Africa to me sent on to you.
